Scotland's oldest inhabited house, including on site brewery, craft workshops, garden cafe and Scotland's largest hedged maze.
We visited the house and grounds. The house is a wonderful place to explore. It has a historic and very personal feel. The grounds and hedge maze are really lovely, and we enjoyed browsing in the artisan shops.
We stayed at Traquair because we were getting married there, but we're already planning to return as it is a wonderful place to visit. The bedrooms are spacious and luxurious, with everything that you need to relax and unwind. Taking breakfast in the Still Room is a real treat, with plenty of choices that make the best of local produce. The setting is magical and being able to explore the house and grounds is a bonus. It's also the perfect location if you enjoy being outdoors with plenty of nearby walking and cycling routes.
Stayed for 2 nights as part of my 70th birthday celebrations. I was able to tour the house and grounds as part of the package. To say the experience was wonderful is an understatement, from amazing staff, superb breakfasts, really comfortable room, bed and bath, beautiful location and the addition of a friendly Peacock my brief time here was memorable. If Angela the Housekeeper is typical of people who work there, Traquair is blessed.
We were primarily there to visit the Maze, which did not disappoint. However we were very surprised by the experience offered in Traquair House itself. It was full of rich history and artifacts, providing loads of information. The walk around the grounds was also very beautiful, with everything in full bloom. The very best part was the fountain of knowledge that is Pat! She knew such an impressive amount of information and was so gracious and kind in her interactions, that we would go back again just to speak to her!
I didn't stay in the rooms but stopped off for a look around and picked up some beers. Also had lunch and the Cullen Skink was amazing. Best in the area!
Our stay at Traquair House was the highlight of our entire 2 week trip. The staff are incredibly welcoming, friendly and accommodating. The house and grounds are beautiful and the rooms were cozy and spotlessly clean, with the comfiest beds we used the entire trip. Staying at Traquair was honestly the opportunity of a lifetime for our group of history buffs. They really go all out to make sure you enjoy every moment of your time there. Don't skip the tour of the house, grounds and brewery, and make sure to ask the staff what their favorite part of the building is. We got to hear so many interesting historical accounts and anecdotes from the knowledgeable staff.
