This 19th-century villa in Twickenham, London, was designed and built by famous British artist J.M.W. Turner in 1813. The house features a unique blend of Regency and Italianate architectural styles, with a symmetrical facade, arched windows, and a grand entrance porch. The interior boasts many of Turner's original furnishings and decorative arts, as well as an impressive collection of his paintings and sketches. The house also showcases Turner's love of nature, with large windows and a beautiful garden that overlooks the River Thames.
Visited Turner's House in Twickenham today. It was an amazing experience as I'm a fan of JMW Turner. There a no crowds and friendly volunteers provide valuable information. The house is lovely and newly refurbished. Richard the guide was amazing and told a lot of interesting facts about House and Turner. Brilliant!
Small house over 3 floors but well worth visiting. It must have been amazing when rural. We spent an hour there. No guided tour available but staff answered any questions we had. Best to book tickets. Parking meters couple of minutes away. Second hand bookshop with a variety of books also small shop where I bought a fridge magnet and a book on Turner and his house. Wanted to add more photos but said personal use only.
Visited Turners House in Twickenham today to see the exhibition( Seeing The LIGHT).I was transfixed by this rare collection of exquisite Italian watercolours, from the Tate Archives - being allowed to view the minute detail, colours and brushwork up close was incredible in the intimate surroundings of this unique house - no crowds and friendly volunteers providing valuable information. Brilliant!
This is a small home (maybe 6 rooms over three levels plus the garden) but guide was extremely informative about JMW Turner's life, influences, and history of the home. It's worth pre-booking the hour long tour.
Very interesting guided tour by a lovely young lady, we learned a lot about Turner, highly recommend to go and look and garden is small but beautiful full of spring flowers
