We went during a Steam day. Which happens I think once a month but check websites. The next one of these is early August from when I write this. On steam days All the engines are in full steam, they also had traction engines and small pumping engines around the site. Entry price:- Was good for what is there. The little gift shop is reasonably priced the lady in the gift shop was lovely and suggested leaving the guide book we bought there and picking it up later so it did not get wet and damaged as we had quite heavy rain the day we visited and even though my kids children trail maps got destroyed we still got a sticker! Food:- They had a BBQ and a little cafe with Cakes and other small snacks. Volenteers:- They are all amazingly knowledgeable and approachable. My kids loved being allowed to blow the whistle on the main boiler for the pumping engine and we're frequently able to ask questions of the volenteers. Nature trail and pond dipping:- they have a nature trail and they had pond dipping on the day we went by a beautiful little pond. My kids loved doing. Both of them managed to catch baby newts, pond skaters and a load of other little beasties. Overall:- If you like old engineering or the science behind industrial development and how something we take for granted the water that comes out our taps gets to us. You will find this place fascinating. My kids really enjoyed it.

Came many years ago and it was interesting, however, on s return visit l was blown away with the improvements and how much was now open/ working. The staff were so friendly and the cafe was a welcome stop - yummy burger and scrumptious cake !! A fantastic day out and well worth a visit !!!

Old engines, mechanical works and pumps, little trains, vintage cars and a cute little nature trail - fun for all ages. They are open only a few days a year so make sure to book your calendar out.
We went on one of the Waterworks open days and it's well worth a visit. The volunteers go above and beyond to make sure everyone has a great time. You'd never know that this building isn't open all the time, it's such a slick operation. The Waterworks building is beautiful and we saw lots of the equipment working. There were also loads of activities for children including bits on the nature walk. There was also a barbecue and tea room on site. Both were well priced and delicious. The cakes were home made and are worth every penny, they are delicious! We will definitely visit again.
