This charming village in Wiltshire, England, is steeped in history and natural beauty. The village is centered around a large green, surrounded by picturesque cottages, a medieval church, and a 19th-century pub. The tranquil atmosphere is enhanced by the gentle River Nadder, which flows through the village. Visitors can explore the surrounding countryside, which is dotted with ancient monuments, including the Iron Age hillfort of Codford Circle. The village's rich history is also reflected in its many historic buildings, including the 15th-century Tyneham House, which features stunning architecture and beautifully manicured gardens.
An amazing slice of English history from the church to the phone box this place is steeped in history highly recommended for all ages. The car park is a voluntary donation of PS4. This is certainly worth it as you can walk to pondfield cove and warbarrow bay only accessible through the village making them nice and quiet parts of the coast
An extraordinary time capsule. Beautiful and sad at the same time. The schoolhouse has essays by the children from a century ago. It's also a short walk to Worbarrow Bay which is a drift wood collectors dream. Check access times though as it's inside the Army Range.
Visited Tyneham today to catch the magical display of wild garlic. At this time of year, in the small wood to the left of the path going down to the beach, a fantastic sight of a green and white carpet fills your senses with its gorgeous garlic fragrance. Tyneham is one of my favourite places to go on the Dorset coast. Apart from the village and it's impelling history, it has a small coffee van, a car park that asks for a PS4 donation and a beautiful beach. Well worth a visit.
A lovely walk and the kids enjoyed exploring the village, the old barn theatre, learning how to make dry stone walls and seeing the old ammunition displays. It's great there's a Salt Pig there too - great coffee to warm you up after a brisk walk on a cold day!
Beautiful shingle beach, nice and quiet with beautiful views. 20 minute walk to the beach from the car park so bring sensible shoes and crocs for the beach to get into the sea as the stones get rather large further down the beach and not so comfortable to walk barefoot. Best part... CRYSTAL CLEAR WATERS! Which is rare to find now.
A spooky reminder of more troubled times. Excellent information panels really bring its history to life. Check opening times via the Tyneham website, as this is an active military firing range.
