Tynemouth Aquarium Enjoy close encounters with hundreds of incredible aquatic creatures at the North East's Aquarium! Come face to face with a huge variety of marine life, from adorable sharks and clownfish, to seahorses and graceful stingrays. Get up close to our river giants who are indigenous to the Amazon - they're a far cry from what you would find in the Tyne, Wear or Tees! DID YOU KNOW: Tynemouth Aquarium rescues, rehabilitates and releases seals from the local coastline. Make sure you meet these delightful mammals who are filled with personality on your visit! Tynemouth Aquarium is idyllically located on the seafront so come and soak up the panoramic views from our new restaurant.
This is a lovely place for all ages. We were here while they fed the 'big fish' and your kids can have a turn feeding them. The staff are very informative and there is a wide variety of animals here. A water tunnel has small sharks swimming overhead and a large seal enclosure at the end has an underwater window. There is a large cheap paid parking lot but it filled up in no time so try to be early if you're driving.
Quite small but the talks and seal show are great. Especially good value for money if you live locally and can buy a year pass as you only need to go around 3 times to make it worthwhile. I would recommend to parents of under 3s as children that age go free and you can go with some frequency and they still enjoy it each time.
It was lovely there, there were a big variety of fish, there were also seals and monkeys! It's good to research before going there about the times of the talks and shows they do with the the seals and the fish because we didn't know and missed the seal show. Highly recommend going there as the money from the ticket goes toward the rehabilitation of seals and the upkeep of the sanctuary.
Love the aquarium. I hadn't been since I was a kid myself. It's smaller than I remember but it's good for little kids. It's a little expensive given the size of it, but it's a nice couple of hours out and calming activity for a toddler. The food in the cafe was good too. You can park next to the aquarium for PS3 all day parking, though depending on the day it can be hard to get a space, and I believe you can use the same parking pass at parking spots up the coast.
First time visiting for about 20 years. Really interesting and informative centre with cafe and pay-and-display car parking along from centre. Wide selection of international fish and sea mammals, with seal hospital and resident seals. Staff very knowledgable. Would definitely recommend.
Ample parking beside the aquarium for PS3 for the full day. Entry price was PS47 for two adults and our 3 year old granddaughter which allowed us full day access. We caught the last of the Rock pool encounter and got to see starfish up close, the river giants display was great with the chance to feed the huge black pacus and the seal encounter was fun to watch. Lots of photo opportunities with hundreds of different types of aquatic life. Food in the restaurant was delicious & the toilets and gift shop were easily accessible. Highly recommended .
