Ulster Folk Museum is a living history museum with rolling hills of countryside and a bustling town filled with authentic period buildings, rich in traditions from over 100 years ago. Wander through and enjoy authentic, period buildings where you'll find costumed guides demonstrating traditional crafts. See daily demonstrations of traditional crafts from our visitor guides throughout the day like basket-weaving and blacksmithing. You can breathe in the fresh air and explore the beautiful countryside at your leisure. Don't forget to say hello to our horses, donkeys, hens and pigs!
Well layed out museum of life in Ireland around 100 years back. There are town/village areas and rural settings too. All brought to life by real people in period dress who demonstrate many of the old crafts and skills used in daily life, and who will talk with you, often in character. Great for kids, an old duffer like may be challenged a little by the rural walk, but worth the effort. There is a lovely tea room and plenty of toilet facilities and a decent free car park. Admission is not at all unreasonable, it's a great family day out.
100% must visit as a social history lover, it's my kind of disneyland. Fortunately it's a Wednesday with not that many visitors, however most do visit with their children so a bit chaotic at times while inside each little house. Spent 5 hours here and do advise anyone come on a dry day and get here before midday.
Highly recommend a visit to Ulster Folk Museum. It is a very family-friendly place with plenty to see and do. The site is absolutely beautiful with well-preserved architecture. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful throughout.
Great day out for kids! I visited as a kid and it's just how I remember Lots of old houses and businesses for little ones to explore. There was also an arts and crafts room set up in one of the town buildings which my 5 year old loved! Cafe in the town area for food and drinks There are also load of animals to see, pigs, chickens, the friendliest cows ever and even horses One thing to note is that it's a fairly big walk for little legs. Think we clocked around 4.5km
This was incredibly historical but not my scene. There were no audio guides. The people working there were very friendly but there was no effort to make it special. We tried to visit as much as possible but majority of the rooms were dark and gloomy. Some things were special like the farm animals, drawings from Tom and the Catholic chapel, but I would not go back. The place has potential to be great but it was not our cup of tea.
Enjoyed a lovely afternoon here going round the old town and farm areas seeing how people lived in the past. Availed off the complimentary passes for accessibility and care workers. Would recommend a visit here. Allow 2-3 hours to enjoy full site
