Wrought-iron chain suspension bridge, inaugurated in 1820, spanning the England-Scotland border.
It was my birthday treat to cross the border on the Union Bridge and it is a beautiful bridge. It is clean well maintained and there are great views of the river from the bridge. There are photo opportunities at each end with information plaques. Definitely worth a visit and a walk along the river.
Remarkable restored bridge with a great history. Beautiful spot but a narrow bridge for smaller vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians. Great riverside walks. Nearby Honey Farm also with a visit.
Interesting place and impressive history of the bridge I was unaware of. Nice walk also on the South bank to Horncliffe.
Nice place to stop/cross and learn a little bit about history. Built in 1820, it was the longest wrought suspension bridge in the world. You can walk, cycle or drive along this short bridge, literally going from Scotland to England and vice versa :)
Interesting visit after a chat with a gentleman I met on my travels. This is the oldest road suspension bridge in Britain so car must be taken to keep it usable
Nice suspension bridge on the river Tweed. One end of the bridge is England and the other is Scotland. It was the longest iron suspension bridge in the world with a span of 449 feet (137 m) in 1820. It's a narrow bridge, only 1 car allowed on the bridge. No toll. Pretty place worth a drive along some country roads to take a few pictures. Free parking for about 4 cars. Stayed about 20 minutes.
