Last entry 5pm. We recommend booking online in advance for best price and to guarantee entry. Discover 1,000 years of drama, experience a glimpse of medieval life and enjoy stunning panoramic views over Loch Ness from the ruins of the greatest castle in the Highlands. Peer into a miserable prison cell, said to have held the legendary Gaelic Bard Domhnall Donn, and imagine the splendid banquets staged in the great hall. A more panoramic view of the iconic ruins, against a backdrop of Loch Ness and the hills of the Great Glen, can be enjoyed from the cafe.
Stunning view! A very lovely historical place. Must visit when you're planning to go to Scotland. Weather can change suddenly which is very typical in the UK, bring your jackets in case it rains. I'm sure you will enjoy! Have a good one!
Urquhart Castle is a must-visit for anyone exploring the Scottish Highlands. Perched on the shores of Loch Ness, the castle offers breathtaking views of the loch and surrounding mountains. The ruins are rich with history, and the informative displays bring the past to life, making it easy to imagine the castle in its prime. The visitor center is well-organized with friendly staff, and the short film provides a great introduction to the castle's turbulent history. Whether you're interested in history or simply want to enjoy stunning scenery, Urquhart Castle is a truly memorable experience.
This is one of my favourite castles in all of the UK! We've visited twice and I would love to go again. The history is very interesting and there are free talks provided. The shop and cafe are also nice. The best aspects, however, are the views and atmosphere. It just sorta feels magical, especially down by the water. The whole area makes for some absolutely stunning photos. Book tickets and parking in advance, as it does get busy (especially early in the day I think).
A must visit! The castle is beautiful and overlooking the loch (lake). There is a film at the beginning and of course they start you off at the gift shop. The stroll outside is very well organized. Make sure you pre order your tickets. Make sure you have at least an hour for the visit.
This was an awesome stop and one of our favorite castles in Scotland. First off, if you plan to visit multiple castles - get the 30 day pass. It will save you tons. Back to the castle, this was so well done as they maintained the original looks as much as possible to allow you to just take in what it is. We really liked that they had recreated images, and models of what it looked like back in the day and then you can look at it now and truly picture the grand appearance of it all. We loved the video, museum area, and overall presentation. This was EXTREMELY well put together. We also loved that it was not crowded and we were able to take our own pace to wander and explore.
A must visit if in the area. Spectacular views of Loch Ness. Unfortunately it was too busy to get in I would advise going early. Good views of the castle and Loch from just up the road on the corner however, there is no parking there so may be better to park down the road and walk up for views of the castle and Loch.
