Scotland's first Victoria and Albert Museum, V&A Dundee is a stunning waterfront building designed by Japanese architect Kengo Kuma, featuring a unique, curved design inspired by the cliffs of Scotland. The museum showcases Scotland's rich design heritage, with a collection of over 300 objects, including textiles, ceramics, and jewelry, as well as exhibits on videogame design, architecture, and engineering. The museum also hosts temporary exhibitions and offers stunning views of the River Tay from its outdoor terrace.
Amazing architecture, and a lovely atmosphere - not the fusty museums of old but a contemporary exhibition space, filled with people of all ages, even on a Monday. I absolutely loved the Kimono exhibition and appreciated the mix of displays, especially the room with the mirrored ceiling that repeated the graphics of the kimonos upwards. Interesting to see kimono culture in context with the other avenues it has inspired (and also the fetishism of the culture). The space itself has a very communal feel, with people working at seats in the downstairs seating area and kids interacting with displays upstairs. The food was good, but the information about what is available should be right at the beginning, rather than only visible by the time you reach someone taking your order. Also the options available could be simplified. Restrooms are amazing, and the lockers also a great idea. Gift shop had a good selection of interesting things, good for gift buying. I also loved the Donna Wilson creature wall!
Great venue and good exhibitions. I think the main atrium / open space could be better put to use to show large scale amazing art. I hope the income from the shop is worth it.?
Beautiful museum. The building itself is stunning. Great temporary exhibition Kimono: Kyoto to Catwalk. Well worth the extra 9 pounds to visit. Rest of the museum is free to visit as are all museums in the UK. Nice restaurant too. Mobility is great. Small mobility scooters are welcome.
Went to see the Kimono exhibition which was amazing, been to the V&A before and is always a good visit. Attended the restaurant which is quite pricey and the service for food was rather slow, but food was good. All staff we interacted eith were nice and helpful.
Sunday morning visit. First time, and it is well worth a visit. Fantastic building inside and out. Something for everyone. The stalls of the local designers and artists are very impressive. Will be back
Visited to see the Kimono Exhibition. This was my first visit and really enjoyed the overall experience. The staff were friendly and ready to chat or answer questions about the building and the exhibition. The Kimono Exhibition was very good and worth visiting. My wife and I also visited the cafe. This was also very good, bright and spacious. We travelled for a couple of hours to visit the V&A and will do so again for future visits when exhibitions are of interest.
