This magnificent horseshoe-shaped bay is the main attraction in Broadstairs. This was the holiday destination of choice for Charles Dickens, who even wrote an affectionate piece on the town, Our English Watering Place. The long sandy bay, cliff-top promenade, and boardwalk make this bay a timeless thing of beauty.
Viking Bay is a sandy shore, perfect for sunbathing or a beach day. The surrounding cliffs provide stunning views. With plenty of bars, cafes, and shops, it's a convenient spot for a day out. We enjoyed a lovely beach day here.
Sandy beach and a good spot for a day trip. Would highly recommend. It is a 15 minute walk from the Broadstairs Station. Perfect beach for a day trip. There are restaurants around as well that serve lovely food.
Oh we LOVED this little stretch of beach. I wish all elevators would have a beach option! ;) and all beaches had an elevator!! Felt mega safe with lots of lifeguards in duty, sandy (seagull attacks on the beach, look after your sarnies!) rides and inflatables for the kids, cafe selling hot and cold drinks. We managed to park nearby and on our first visit we walked past SO MANY BEAUTIFUL ships and cafes. Would definitely leave a little more time to go around the area. Really recommend!!
Sheltered sandy beach at the foot of chalk cliffs. Viking Bay has long been a popular local tourist destination, and was a favourite of Charles Dickens. The golden sand and varied array of buildings around the bay lend it a memorable character and provide some good photo opportunities. A board walk has been installed to make the beach more accessible. Much busier than I like during summer, but great facilities for a family day out if you don't mind the crowds. The Pavilion on the Sands restaurant and Tartar Frigate pub are almost on the beach, and there are shops selling beach gear, ice cream and fish and chips nearby. Also plenty of activities for children in the summer months.
Lovely sandy beach with a rock pool, lots of seaweed, and a great scenery view with the surrounding cliffs being the main bay of broadstairs. The beach has a cafe and toilets close nearby, outside shower, beach huts, and deckchairs to hire. It's great that there is a lift to use making the beach easily accessible. There's a nearby amusement arcade, restaurants, pubs, and ice cream parlour. Also, there's the broadstairs undercliff walking trail that goes from viking bay to dumpton gap. It's worth checking out different events that are going on at viking bay, such as the water gala event and firework displays.
You can spend the full day here, really lovely place, stunning views. A lot of stuff to do with the kids. Nice pubs and restaurants. And a must try ice cream on Morelli's Gelato.
