A Rothschild House & Gardens. Open to the public, Waddesdon is a French-style chateau set in beautiful gardens in the heart of Buckinghamshire. With a world class art collection, there is a varied programme of events and exhibitions running throughout the year. See our impressive Wine Cellars, visit for afternoon tea and other dining experiences.
Surely the best and grandest of all National Trust properties. Set in hundreds of acres of glorious gardens and countryside, the house and contents are truly stunning. Walks abound, many on good flat paths, although there are some fairly steep slopes and steps in certain areas. The car park is enormous but is a long way from the house and a shuttle bus (PS2.50 even for members) is the best option. Everything at Waddesdon Manor is on a grand scale and don't miss the treasury exhibits on the top floor or the fantastic aviary in the gardens. There is also a restaurant as well as coffee shops. This really is a stunning "must visit" place.
Absolutely stunning manor. Lots of history to dwell on inside the actual manor. Stunning gardens too. The staff inside the manor are lovely but some staff members need some more help with their etiquettes. Overall a beautiful day visiting this lovely manor. Wish I could've explored the gardens properly but with young kids it wasn't practical.
Absolutely gorgeous place. Great outdoors for a walk with dog. Garden is well maintained and impressive. Manor is beautiful. Entry to the manor without pushchair, but staff offered us the hip carrier which was great. Staff very nice. Toilets available, for disabled and baby changing too. There's restaurant, cafe, and gift shop with nice wines.
Unprepared for just how extensive this place was, the shuttle bus was a life saver (this is a paid extra service). Absolutely stunning. We were drawn by the amazing sculpture of a three storey ceramic wedding cake and amazed from start to finish. So glad we toured the house (Disney Palace?) The staff were so helpful, very knowledgeable and passionate about their favourite pieces. From learning how pearls are made to the impressive array of art and French inspired interiors, grandeur begins at the front gate!
It was an interesting insight into how wealth, accumulated over time, can leave the owners of it with very little understanding of normal life. The way in which good taste can falter when money is no object was also quite evident. Unlike most stately homes I've visited over the years, this one felt as though it was nothing but show, that it had not been a house lived in and loved by its occupants, which was quite sad.
Absolutely beautiful house and grounds. Opulent! Every room. Staff were super friendly. You can get a bus from the car park to the house for PS2.50 per person. I loved this place and will definitely return.
