Walesby Forest is a very large international outdoor educational activity centre set in 250 acres of natural forest in north Nottinghamshire. We offer several accommodation options for groups including 4 lodges, a tented village, a tented camp for up to 200 campers, or you can opt to bring your own equipment if you wish. We are a not for profit organisation which has been inspiring and educating children for the last 85 years. We offer bespoke educational and adventure activity programmes for schools, youth groups, organised groups such as Scouts & Guides, and the general public. We can also provide children's parties, outdoor activity days and much more. There is also a gift shop, bar, and restaurant on site as well as an outdoor pool.
Liked: Lots of activities for kids Staff were friendly Pitches had plenty of room and kids loved running around the field Also the barrels to have a campfire were brilliant. Disliked: Toilets and showers wasn't very clean and was very far from our pitch Wasn't aware there was a festival opposite which kept us awake until at least 11pm every night More activities for younger children would be brilliant Not really an issue with the site but dogs were constantly running free and kept coming up to our pitch were we have a nervous leaded dog
Liked: Plenty of space for pitches, lots of toilets dotted around although some are better than others. Lots of things for children to do on activity schedule, although just a general children's play area would be well received. Liked that you could collect wood around site for fire pits, added to the camp fire fun Disliked: Toilets away from main block ran out of toilet roll daily
Liked: The tent pitches are so big, we were close to the toilets and showers, showers were hot! Washing up facilities were very helpful! We all enjoyed the activities so much, we tried new things and got quite competitive! We had so much space around our tents to play games of badminton and football. The grass was nice and short so made putting tents up easy. The staff were friendly and happy to help. Loved that we could use a fire pit free of charge. The range of activities was good as was the entertainment for the children. Disliked: Toilet rolls could do with being changed more often as they were empty alot of the time. Sign post for places like the lake to go kayaking were not anywhere and the map wasn't very clear when in the middle of the forest. Opening times for the bar would be helpful as we found it closed on Sunday with no staff member able to give a reason as to why.
Liked: The pitches are a really generous size and the ground is firm but easy to peg. They keep the grass nice and short. The facilities were perfect for us, very clean. We absolutely loved the entertainment and activities provided. The staff are super friendly and any time I've encountered a problem (this year it was my tent pegs getting stuck in the ground, another year I had completely forgotten my tent poles) they are always reassuring and happy to help. It's a beautiful place to stay and there is a supermarket just a 6 minute drive away. Other activities not too far away but it would be easy to spend the whole holiday here and not get bored. We saw Red Kites while we were here along with lots of other wildlife. There is WiFi at the pub and around that central area but obviously the whole site is 250 acres so you're not going to get it at your pitch but we found that network coverage was pretty good. Disliked: The pub does food but no desserts. Not the end of the world, but it's nice to have a bit of cake or something after a meal.
Liked: Lots of space. Plenty of room to play ball games without disturbing other campers. Activities were varied and reasonably priced. Free outdoor pool with lifeguards was excellent. Disliked: One toilet block near reception was a long trek and was very old and tired. The site needs to invest in new toilet blocks more accessible to each camping field. There was also only 1 washing up station also at the far end of the site and only 1 water tap on each camping field. The electric was incredibly expensive in comparison to other sites and in this day was inadequate for the amount of electrical devices that most people use and tripped out with only a few devices plugged in. For these 2 reasons we would not return. The site definitely requires modernisation If you choose to visit karaoke on a Saturday be aware that this is viewed by staff as 'theirs' they don't like guests joining in and ruining their fun.
Liked: Tent pitches are very spacious, we were lucky enough to stay close to the toilet and shower facilities. The choice of activities were great, there was no rush in completing them and we were able to go back and do them again. Plenty of space for us as a family to do games with the kids I.e badminton, football. Disliked: I would say some of the locations of the activities could be better signposted such as the kayaking and raft building. Not sure how often the toilets get checked and cleaned, the toilet block we were near was mostly out of toilet paper for the duration of our stay. There was nowhere to go and grab food on the Sunday, we were leaving on the Sunday however stayed to do the afternoon activities but had to leave as nowhere was open to go for food.
