This 440-acre park is a former quarry site that has been transformed into a beautiful green space. The park features several walking trails, including a 2-mile circular route, and offers stunning views of the surrounding countryside. Visitors can explore the park's woodland, grasslands, and wetlands, which are home to a variety of wildlife, including birds, insects, and small mammals. The park also features a number of sculptures and public art installations, adding to its unique charm.
We went to the Walltown Country Park as its advertised on Google as being the best place to see Hadrians Wall. The visitor centre only sells hot and cold drinks which you serve yourself and some chocolate bars so if you're looking for anything more you won't get it here. Great big open spaces for children to play and a few picnic tables but that's about it. We took the trail to see the wall and walked over an hour through fields of sheep and sheep poo only to find a few small ruins. Not what was advertised. Wouldn't recommend.
You can have some great circular walks, or walk a great section of Hadrian's wall, also known for its dark skies, Northumbria is one of the best places in Europe for stargazing as there's no light pollution.
Beautiful scenery, car park toilets and picnic tables
Great Park. Great walks and super access to the wall. Excellent.
Lovely view worth the hike although it was written down as a beginner level and I have mobility issues and it was very uphill for me. Not so ideal for people who struggle with balance, especially after it's been raining!
Fantastic place- amazing section of Hadrians Wall, and great walks both up onto the crags, and to Thirlwall Castle. Parking and access really easy for our motorhome. Phew! Staff member in visitor centre was very friendly, and helpful . Spent a good few hours based there.
