Walsingham Abbey is famous for the evocative and beautiful ruins of the Priory of our Lady of Walsingham, one of the medieval world's most important places of pilgrimage. Destroyed after the Dissolution of the Monasteries in 1538, today the ruins stand among lawns, with woodland and river walks extending to 18 acres. The woodland fills with drifts of naturalised snowdrops in February. Admission to the Abbey Grounds, and the Shirehall Museum which is included with admission, is at the medieval gatehouse in Walsingham High Street. Admission for 2024: adults PS6.50, child PS2.50 (6-16). Under 6 free. Dogs on leads welcome. Free admission to members of Historic Houses (not valid on charity days) No advance booking is required.
Loved this place. Absolutely stunning spiritual place. Amazing history here, in beautiful grounds. Tickets not expensive and no wait to get in. There is just an air about the place. You can almost see the monks still walking around from hundreds of years ago. Take time and enjoy everything then visit the stunning Church and Shrine , and though the village is only small, have a little walk round. You can sense the history and again your imagination can easily see our ancestors still walking about in their Norman dress. The eclectic coffee shop run by lovely staff, on the corner of the old cobbled market next to the abbey sells nice drinks & snacks but not cheap, and the shrine shop opposite sells some lovely things too. There's also an amazing farm shop a bit further round the village. Would definitely keep going back
Very disappointing. We were expecting proper colourful gardens, the receptionist told us there were so many acres of gardens. In fact, it was just woodlands and fields with no flowers. Of course, the history of the Abbey is interesting.
Very pretty, lovely laid out walks and a nice small but interesting museum. Peaceful and recommend an hour or two there
Sign says card payments only but their WiFi is rubbish so make sure you have cash. Walsingham is a really great place if you are interested in mediaeval buildings and history.
Walsingham Abbey is *the* place for snowdrops. The grounds around the former abbey site are covered like snow. There are several paths through the woods and alongside the river that weave through the flowers. It's a truly stunning place. The abbey itself is equally captivating and has an incredible history. There is a museum jam-packed full of information and a small shop too. We had a lovely day here with the dog. The cost is very reasonable and it didn't feel crowded at all.
Went to visit snowdrops which were spectacular. Walk around ruined Abbey grounds a bonus. Not much ruins left but remaining arch and window impressive. Pack horse Bridge and dell with ruined ice house interesting features. Meuseum OK....courthouse an extra but tired. Good place to start if shrine visitor as Original location in grounds of Abbey. If visiting suggest using overflow car park as chapel and railway display could be missed at top of quaint street leading down to high street. Good waterproof shoes advised as some areas muddy.
