Wardown House, Museum and Gallery is a grade II listed building situated in the beautiful grounds of Wardown Park. Formerly the home of the Scargill family, then a World War I military hospital, the house is now a museum. But not just any museum, this house transports you back in time, to a Victorian family home. Every room tells a story, with interactive displays, a treasure trove of local curiosities and the largest hat collection in the UK. Our Morning Room art gallery displays inspiring exhibitions throughout the year and our dining room cafe, overlooking Wardown Park, serves up the most delicious coffee and cake . You can even treat yourself to an afternoon tea.
An absolutely charming museum that is a pleasure to visit. The collections are varied, surprisingly engaging, beautifully presented and many are interactive. There's much more than meets the eye contained I this little gem hidden away in the park. I had no idea that Luton was so interesting, it's definitely worth a second visit. Oh, also there's a wonderful tearoom entrance to the museum is free!
It's just so well done, set out with folders in each room to look up what things are. It's the attention to detail and so well thought out. Also the cafe had a very good cream scone (listen out for the sound of horses on the way in). Set in the beautiful wardown park. Had a lovely day and all for Free (apart from the coffee and cake)
I've lived in and around Luton for some years and can't believe I've never been here! What a fantastic place full of history and stories. I think I spent most of my time wandering around with my mouth open, and my most used phrase being, "did you see that?" Do yourself a favour and spend some time there getting an education, no excuse not to as it's also Free!!
It's a beautiful space to be in. It captures the history of the house and how it would have looked. Plus, upstairs a separate exhibit captures the characters and costumes of war. Downstairs, the dining area now houses the cafe that creates a wonderful location for many who enjoy admiring the beautiful gardens whilst having sandwiches, tea and other pastries. It does get very busy at times. A lovely place to go.

A little known gem. It's a lovely old house, used as a museum, in a beautiful park with a lake. We lived in St Albans for 40 years without knowing this. Now living in North London, it took only 45 minutes to get here by car. The many trees in the park look about 100 years old, and are big and unspoiled. A walk around the lake and other areas is a real pleasure. The museum is bigger than one would expect, on seeing the house. And it's chock-full of interesting objects. One could easily spend three hours in here alone. Altogether it makes a really nice day out.
