This 17th-century market house turned museum showcases the history of Watchet, a charming Somerset town. The building's timber-framed structure and Georgian façade have been beautifully preserved, while its interior now features exhibits on the town's maritime past, its role in the medieval wool trade, and its connections to notable figures such as Samuel Taylor Coleridge. Visitors can explore the museum's collection of artifacts, including model ships, old photographs, and antique objects, to gain a deeper understanding of Watchet's rich heritage.
Quaint museum. Small but lots of variety of exhibits. Free to enter but there is a donation box . A nice way to spend 20 mins.
Small but perfectly formed. Spent about 20 mins looking at the displays.
Small, but packed with detail & artifacts. A lot has happened over the centuries in this little town.
Tiny but lovely. You could walk round this one room museum and be out in thirty seconds though to do it justice would take much longer. The usual collection of local finds of fossils and artefacts one might expect from a town museum. The finds were generally well interpreted, I only spotted one error and that was for something I believe to be more interesting than they think it is. The local industry section explaining the horse drawn iron ore railway to the docks was interesting.
Small free museum. Worth a gander.
Great to look back onto the history of Watchet.
Wheelchair-accessible entrance
Restaurant
Good for kids
