Come to a living museum and discover rescued rural homes and buildings set in a beautiful landscape. Our collection tells the stories of the people who lived and worked in South East England over 1,000 years. Enjoy our tourist attraction family-friendly 40-acre site and a collection of historic buildings - we have more than 50 to explore from a replica Anglo-Saxon hall house to an Edwardian tin church. There is regular demonstrations, including milling in our 17th century watermill; cooking in our Tudor kitchen; blacksmithing in our Victorian smithy; plus seasonal demonstrations. Take a walk in the woods, we are dog-friendly, visit our waterside cafe (also dog-friendly) or enjoy your own picnic.
Huge site in rural location, well worth a visit. The buildings are really interesting and they are brought to love by volunteers / reenactors who show how we used to love through the ages. This really makes the museum. Good coffee / cake. Lots of things to see. Would be better if there was a playground for small children - there's certainly enough space. Good gift shop. A very pleasant day out.
Great morning at the open museum, fascinating place with centuries of history. Most of the buildings have a member of staff to explain the history and bring context to the exhibit. It covers a large area so will need to have good mobility, had a guest with me in wheelchair although there is access it's not so with all the exhibits. Will go back and see what we didn't see first time. Just for those who don't know this is where the repair shop is filmed.
Well worth a visit if you feel in touch with the past. Lots of interesting information about the ways of life of old. Many buildings to see and demonstrations of ancient skills such as making butter by hand, milling flour, etc.
This is a great place to visit. The whole site is beautiful, and also dog friendly. You can walk through the houses of the past and see how they used to be set up, and people used to live. The staff are so knowledgeable and you will get some fascinating facts from them as well. There is a great cafe on site with a nice range of food and little coffee shops and ice cream vans through the grounds. We spent about 4 hours here.
One of my favourite places to visit. It's set in beautiful scenery and the old historic buildings are so interesting. Lovely restaurant on site, also a little place selling coffee and sandwiches as you walk around. Toilets at the restaurant and also near the little coffee place. We stayed for 4 hours, walking around the trail and going in to see each house as you pass by. There is an information plaque outside each property which gives you the history of it. We were lucky that they were filming at the Repair Shop and we saw some of the stars walking around. A very enjoyable day.
This was a fantastic recommendation. Just over PS40 for the family and worth every penny. Lots to see and do with great staff and a range of really interesting people to listen to. A shock to me, this is the home of the 'Repair Shop' from the TV program.
