Next opening days: Friday 16th, Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th of December 2022. 10-5 (last admission 4pm) Free for NTS /NT members A National Trust for Scotland property where the traditional weaver's craft comes to life. With the last working handloom in the village.
My favourite National Trust exhibit so far! My partner and I took a trip out for an afternoon and had a great time. The staff were knowledgeable and very welcoming. Suzanne and Hannah were particularly great. Looking forward to going again some time in the future with family
Small weavers cottage and gardens. Only open at the weekend. Nicely maintained cottage spread over different levels. With main loom in the basement. Nice activity sheets for the kids ... look for the mice ... look for certain objects to engage and encourage asking questions. As with other national trust properties the staff were friendly and engaging and full of stories and interesting facts about the objects. The kids were given the chance to use the loom and wind some wool. Nice to cover an hour or so. Might be difficult with a bigger group as the rooms are narrow and quite small.
Tiny cottage, with just three small rooms and a garden - but brought to life by a wonderful personal tour. Allowed to have a go weaving on a loom as well!
Great place to understand the history of weaving in the local area. The cottage is split over a few levels with living and work areas. There is a lovely small garden at the rear and also a small shop selling a few items. The staff knew their subject and were very helpful.
Unmissable experience. The staff is very welcoming and gives all the explanations about the history of the place and the processing of the loom
Fascinating little local museum. Excellent place to spend an hour or 2, especially for kids. While the cottage is small, only 4 rooms or so + the gardens to visit there is a huge amount to see and learn. The loom room is the most fascinating part of the visit and if you are lucky you'll get to do a little bit of weaving, adding a couple of rows to this year's weaving sample and your name to the book. A huge commendation to the staff working there though as they really make the story of the cottage come to life and really helped the kids engage with the visit. Well worth a visit.
