Conserved canalside textile industry buildings including mills, workers' houses & warehouses.
This is a fantastic museum to visit in Burnley. We organised a guided group walk at the canalside and saw the big old engine running as well. Amazing history of the cotton mills and how the boats were utilised to move goods. Great bring kids along. They need our donations to keep this heritage site running by volunteers.
Free entry Absolutely lovely staff who are informative and actually cared about what they were doing even though they are volunteer's. Definitely go back just for the information and chats!
Arrived here after following the trail at the Burnley Canal Festival. The staff were amazingly friendly and knowledgeable. Free entry and a fascinating building full of history. We can't wait to visit again and I'm so glad that we discovered it!
Nice local museum showing how people of the past lived, and worked as well as a history of the textile industry in the Burnley area. Well worth a visit!
Sadly, the visitors centre was not open when we passed by on the canal. In fact it seems it rarely does open. To be fair, It is free to visit, and I suppose it is staffed by volunteers and must have some overheads to pay, so no doubt they have to restrict opening hours. Will hope to visit some day, but not sure I'll ever be in Burnley again.
Very good experience of life in the early cotton industry and how much the canal, the Leeds and Liverpool was part of it there is the toll House as it was, free admission, donations appreciated, well worth a visit to see part of Burnleys heritage
Good for kids
