This 12.5-mile heritage railway runs from Caernarfon to Porthmadog, passing through the picturesque Snowdonia National Park. The railway features vintage steam and diesel trains, offering a nostalgic journey through some of Wales' most stunning landscapes.
Fantastic visit this afternoon. We visited late in the day hoping for a little ride our daughter had been asking for all week. We parked for free outside, we brought tickets for 2 adults and 2 children (8&4) for PS37 and our 2 dogs were free. Toilets very clean! We had a lovely cabin and enjoyed the view. It was a short ride to the end, the staff were very friendly and asked my children if they wanted to help do the signals. We then travelled back and stopped at the museum, we loved the miniature train with a very friendly driver. The staff interacted with us in the museum and gave us some extra history about the town and railway. The children got to go inside a train, see inside and pull the horn! Lots of little activities, very interactive and good information. We had a ride back to the station and enjoyed the shop, great stock and again lovely friendly staff! Thank you for a fantastic time.
SMALL BUT MIGHTY This little railway may not include miles of track but it has a few hidden gems. To start a lovely cafe and a well stocked shop. A clean and tidy welcome with some very clean toilet facilities including disabled and baby change. The staff on the platform were super helpful with our push chair. It was lovely to see the staff including children by showing them how parts of the railway run. The museum had lots of interesting bits to look at as well as toys for children. It's the only railway museum I have been to where you can climb onto the engines. The train journey is short but this is offset by the museum visit, a ride on their miniature railway and the fact your tickets last all day. It's a win and value for a family day out at a fraction of the price of other railways.
Had a great family trip out on the train. The weather wasn't great but so this was a perfect thing to do. Sitting on the train, watching the gorgeous views. There was a little stop where you get to explore for a short time, which was lovely.
Not recommended. Very expensive. No discount for children or OAPs, which is ok if the ride was more than 100m. It's very short and not worth the visit at all. 3 children were all disappointed, and 5 adults were not impressed. PS79 in total for a literal 7-minute ride. Very disappointing. The museum was small and had lots going on, which is nice but certainly shouldn't be the main attraction but is the only use of time. Do not waste your money!!
Absolutely fantastic day we had, I love how you can travel all day. The food was fantastic and the shop well stocked up. It is amazing for the children, the museum keeps them entertained also the miniature railway. I love how the children are involved with carrying the token or pushing buttons. Definitely be back and would recommend!
A fantastic heritage railway for enthusiasts and families with young children. It's a shorter run than others in the area which made it perfect for our boys of 3 and 1. The staff were incredible at involving them both in helping with the signals and passing the key to the driver- it's attention like this which make it stand out from other larger heritage railways we have visited, this made their day. The farm stop which includes a museum is brilliant for children and interesting for adults. Lots of fun and well thought out activities- particular highlights for our children were the runaway train, push along duplex engine, garden railway and the sit on bench train. The shop is so well stocked it had some great BigJigs pieces , we picked up something for our eldest to go on his 00 gauge model railway. The cafe food was well priced for such an attraction and freshly cooked to order which did mean it took a little longer but it was worth the wait.
