The Welsh Spitfire Museum is restoring a 1944 mkVIII Spitfire to flying condition and establishing a military history library. We funded our daily expenses from the income of our shop and the donation from visitors to our museum which is in the same building as our museum. We are a registered charity under our name The Aviation Heritage Foundation, and a company with limited guarantee. For more contact info@welshspitfire. Org
A lovely little museum. What is great is talking to the enthusiastic people who volunteer there - as much (or as little) information as you could possibly wish for about the spitfire and aircraft restoration (we ended up chatting about aircraft safety factors and engine mounting arrangements - not everyone's cup of tea but this is the place to come if you like these sort of chats). Wishing them all the best for their marathon restoration effort to get the plane back into the sky. The attached charity shop is also really good.
Amazing to stumble over this small museum in the centre of a Welsh town with a half complete Supermarine Spitfire from 1944 in the back! What a labour of love these guys have taken on. A CAA registered aircraft, which will require a lot of time and a lot of money spent on it. For anyone, old or young, who wishes to get up close and personal with the innards of this world famous icon of British aircraft engineering.
Online it says free. When you go there it's PS2 PER ADULT. SECOND WALK FOR 1 MIN museum finished. And so bad museum.
Tiny one room museum. Inside and behind a charity shop for raising money to get the Spitfire rebuilt. Good cause to support
For any WWII aircraft fan or anyone who has only ever heard of a Spitfire, getting up close and personal with the cockpit of this rare aircraft is a dream! Yes it is a mammoth task, yes it is going to take a long time and yes it is going to cost a fortune but YES it is worth doing! Visit the shop and see what is there and get the bug NOTE THEY HAVE MOVED DOWN THE STREET. If, like me, you find the shop empty then don't panic! Continue down the street passed Gregg's to their new premises as seen in photos. Thanks Roy for the info and the enthusiasm. Good luck with a great cause
