A former chalk quarry turned nature reserve, featuring a unique landscape of steep cliffs, grasslands, and woodland, with a variety of flora and fauna, including rare species, and offering scenic views and walking trails.
It is always fun walking up to the Chalk pit. There are various paths through the Harnham community and a longer one through the field via Netherhampton. The location is popular with dog walkers and bikers especially when the weather is right. We typically go during summer. And the view of the surrounding community and Salisbury at large isn't bad. Note: The best season to visit is during summer or any other time when the ground isn't wet. We once had a short picnic and it was fun.
I read a recommendation of Harnham's chalk pit for walkies so we went to investigate. A bit boring really, though Rona barked at lots of non-existent squirrels. I managed to climb a steep chalk slope (it would be treacherous if it were wet) to a higher level. An awful lot of litter present - such a shame. I'd love to recommend this location, however suffice to say I doubt very much that we'll return any time soon!
Lovely walk to get to the cliffs. Once you have reached the top there is a lovely view of Salisbury and the Salisbury cathedral. There is a bit of litter about though, and people have created a biking area with bike jumps.
A bit hard to find, but a fun place for older kids to ride their bikes, plenty of jumps. Only down side is it is being used as a bit of a tip site for rubbish and junk at the entrance way.
The jumps up there are good for beginners but not much for the more experienced. If you're into free ride this is the place for you as there are several cliff drops!
Lovely place to walk the puppies above the chalk pit, with great views
