This 1.5-mile long heritage railway runs from Hesketh Bank Station to Preston's Riverside Station, offering a scenic ride through the Lancashire countryside. The railway features a collection of historic locomotives and carriages, including a 1906-built steam locomotive and 1950s-era diesel multiple units. Passengers can enjoy the views of the surrounding countryside while learning about the history of the railway through on-board commentary and exhibits at the stations.
Run by volunteers, of an excellent source of knowledge and the journey maybe short but it's very interesting and youngsters rarely become bored
Great trip out for kids and adults alike. Steam trains and a great cafe, lots of indoor and outdoor seating, friendly volunteers who will gladly answer any questions you may have.
First time visiting. Didn't know this existed. Found out through Google last year. Went to day, 3/09/2023. The weather was great, which made it better. Very friendly staff. Got to look around the sheds, which was really good. Lots to see and do. Food and hot drinks. Excellent for a family day out, all different types of steam trains. This is a narrow guage railway. Just ride up and down all day. Carriages are great. This is down to very hard enthusiastic volunteers. They need our help to keep them going. Without us, they wouldn't survive. Worth every penny. Plenty of seating capacity, and marques to stay dry if the weather turns. Would I go back.... Definitely.
A lovely small heritage railway, very short line, so don't go expecting it to be a long route. Volunteers are lovely and chatty made my little boys day letting him clip the tickets. Lovely food at the cafe, we went and it was busy so they were falling behind on orders, but hey ho everyone was happy chatting. Just something to mention to the staff would be put more people on making the food as people were walking off. We really had a lovely day and will certainly be back !!
They're a fantastic team here. They all do their bit to make it feel magical for the children prams won't fit on the train but they have somewhere to keep it until you come back. They have an area for children to play, food and drinks, a little shop and Christmas music it really was lovely and I appreciate all of the effort everyone put it. I'll look forward to coming again.
Very friendly people and place to visit. Enjoyed the ride on the train. The tea room serves lovely tea and scones. What could be better!
