The West Somerset Railway is a 22-mile heritage railway that runs from Norton Fitzwarren to Minehead, passing through the picturesque Quantock Hills and along the Somerset coast. The railway features a collection of vintage locomotives and carriages, offering a nostalgic journey through the countryside. Passengers can enjoy the scenic views while seated in comfortable, restored carriages from the 1950s and 1960s. The railway also hosts various events and themed trains throughout the year, including Santa Specials and Summer Steam Galas.
Excellent gala on the Saturday. The weather helped with a full cloud 0800 arrival morphing into a 1830 full blue sky. As ever staff very helpful and friendly. Was somewhat expensive at PS38 for the day with no timetable sheets handed out as is normal at galas up and down the country. A PS2 3 day printed booklet containing all the timetables for the 3 days didn't go down well with many people , especially as Thur and Fri were of zero use. Also no Over 65 concession fare - again , a tad unfair. Refreshments- particularly by a private enterprise - were overpriced at PS3 for a small coffee and PS5 for a tiddy hot dog. Unfortunately, that seems to be common now at all events so I always go to these do's fully supplied from home.
Went to a steam rally day event. Had a fab time with 3 grandchildren.
Great weekend despite the weather on Saturday. Free steam train ride to site from Bishops Lydiard and just a good weekend all round. A must see
