This reserve is a vast area of wetland and moorland habitat, home to a diverse range of wildlife including otters, birds, and insects. The landscape is characterized by wet heathland, bog, and fen, with many pools and streams. The site is particularly notable for its vibrant display of colorful plants, including bog cotton, cross-leaved heath, and harebell. The reserve also features several walking trails, allowing visitors to explore the area and take in the sights and sounds of this unique environment.
We went on a guided walk around the reserve, which I would highly recommend. There were so many birds to see and hear, but lots of plants to spot too. There's a lot of work being carried out to re-establish the mire. There's a fee to park but it's not that much and it goes to support the work of the Wildlife Trust who manage the reserve.
Lovely to walk my dog but she's an old lady so I'm back to the car within 30-60mins so the PS3 parking fee is extortionate much better if it was in 30mins increments
What a fantastic place to spend a weekend with the family! This spot has it all - beautiful footpaths, for nature lovers. The car park is excellent and incredibly affordable, costing just PS3 for the entire day. This small fee makes the visit even more appealing and accessible Overall Experience: This spot is definitely worth a visit. One of the very, very few areas where dogs can walk thanks to a public right of way rather than any sense of altruism on the part of the Somerset Wildlife Organisation. It's a quiet beautiful place and if you can beat the workman wielding industrial machinery you'll see some amazing birds including Bearded Reedling and Great Crested Grebe. You have to pay PS3 for parking by card only, even if you are just turning round as a camera records your arrival.
Amazing place to visit for wildlife and especially bird watching, with other sites very nearby, like the hawk and owl trust, and Avalon marshes centre. Load's of walks all around this area ...take your binoculars!!!
