Local wildlife charity offering a friendly and relaxed cafe atmosphere overlooking the wonderful Westport Lake. Our friendly cafe offers a wide range of hot and cold snacks and drinks, which can be enjoyed inside or outside on the lakeside balcony. The lake and surrounding grounds are ideal for a stroll and there is a good level footpath of around 1 mile around the lake and a health walk around the conservation area. Look out for wildlife as Westport Lake is an important overwintering site for many water birds and unusual species are known to stop off at the late during migration. The conservation area at the Northern end of the site is home to many animals including kingfishers and dragonflies. There is a children's play area nearby.
Great place to visit. A lovely walk around the lake with different paths to take, lots of wildlife and you can buy bird food in the cafe alongside kids meals, snacks, a brew and souvenirs. You can rent a bike for both able and disabled bodies, there's a smaller lake where remote control boats are allowed and a great play area for the kids.
Super lake for walking and a bit of peace and quiet. Hire a bicycle, various models or feed the birds around the lake. The canal runs alongside too so lots to see. Parking available and a nice wee coffee shop on site.
There is so much to do from going to the cafe to riding a bike or feeding the ducks which you can get food from the cafe Or you could go on a nature walk and learn about the different types of trees and wildlife or you can play on the play park with your children and have a picnic amazing day
Lovely place. Well looked after but not to the detriment of the natural space. Paths all around the lake, accessible for wheelchairs and bike/wheelchair hire is available. Lots of wildlife, swans, geese, ducks and more. Off the path, wilder nature reserves can be explored. Picnic benches around the lake and a lovely cafe in the shape of an arc offering a variety of cakes and savoury snacks, eat inside, takeaway, or sit on the balcony overlooking the lake. Also adjacent to the canal if you want to walk further afield. Children's playground, ice cream van, and dogs allowed on leads to respect the wildlife and nesting birds. What more could you want?
They are charging PS1.80 for half a cheese slice sandwich. Literally half, one piece of bread! The other prices in there are extortionate and greedy, ripping people off should be illegal. Also if you want an ice-cream from the van outside - a cone or clam is PS8 and yes, I said EIGHT POUNDS. It's a disgrace. The wildlife is lovely on the lake but the visitor center side needs shutting down.
I had an amazing time at the Westport Lake! The walk around the lake was absolutely wonderful, offering different paths with stunning views and plenty of wildlife to see along the way. The atmosphere was serene and perfect for a relaxing day out. The facilities were also great, with a lovely cafe where you can grab a snack, a warm drink, and even bird food to feed the ducks. The play area looked like fun for kids, and there are plenty of spots to sit and enjoy the surroundings. Whether you're into walking, birdwatching, or just want to unwind by the water, this is a fantastic place to visit!
