This museum showcases the history and heritage of Weymouth and the surrounding area, with exhibits on the town's maritime past, its role in the English Civil War, and its development as a popular seaside resort. The museum's collection includes artifacts, photographs, and interactive displays that tell the story of Weymouth's people, places, and events.
Really small, but cute in it own way. It's worth popping in.
This used to be an amazing attraction taking you through the history of Weymouth guided if I remember correctly by a talking cat. Now it's a room with very little of interest in it a lot of what is there isn't even real always disappointing to look at a civil war weapon and see the words replica of weapons used. The displays do not really link together to do justice to the rich and interesting history of Weymouth. Weymouth is a lovely place with great friendly people (the people running the museum where very nice) and it is obvious the people who have set the museum are trying but come on Weymouth council put some funding their way and bring back a museum that does justice to the area.
3 star rating because it is a temporary museum whilst the other main new museum will be under construction or refurbished. Still located in the old brewery in the town square, has some interesting artifacts, local social history archaeology and fossils. At a nominal PS2 admission for adults that's a good way of spending an hour or so. It is a shame that Weymouth Council have been so incompetent with this building otherwise it could have been a brilliant local asset. I understand this current exhibition is managed by volunteers. Hopefully once the new museum has its new premises it will be a brilliant local history venue about Weymouth and the surrounding areas. One amazing local history note is that apparently the Black death came to Britain via visitor to Weymouth harbour.... No need to worry that was in about the 14th century!
Nice place to visit, only problem is the very restricted opening hours. If you do get the chance well worth the effort and with the Tudor house just round the corner, nice way to spend a few hours.
Really interesting to see what Weymouth was like through the age's, been to brewer's Quay before many years ago when the brewery was there, nice to see the building still being used.
Well worth a visit, such a shame not more money invested so much put in such a small area love it
Wheelchair-accessible entrance
Restaurant
Good for kids
