Fabulous ruins with stunning views, very atmospheric. Around PS18 each for adult entrance, slightly less for concession and children. We got the audio guide but didn't really use it as; first we couldn't find how to play what we were looking at, nobody gave us instructions to look for the numbers, (it didn't start from the beginning, just part way through, I assume where the last person had stopped it), secondly when we could only find 3 numbers!, thirdly, the volume on my partner's wouldn't turn up so he couldn't hear it, and fourth, what I did listen to went into too much detail, I only wanted an overview. At the time we visited there was a Dracular play on which drew a large crowd but unfortunately for me, detracted from the peaceful atmosphere of a ruined Abbey. But obviously, alot of people would enjoy a free play included in the ticket price. The museum was a little underwhelming with just a few relics/stones found at the site. There is a well stocked shop and a tea shop, but we didn't call in, so cannot comment. The ruins themselves are impressive I just wish it had been quieter. I was astonished at the number of people, children and adults, climbing up the weathered pillars to take photos, there were no staff around to supervise and I only saw one sign asking people not to climb. There are 2 ways to reach the Abbey, either climbing up 199 steps or via the open top tour bus, which pulls up outside approximately every 20 minutes. There's also a car park a short distance away with a separate entrance. Worth a visit, but check what on when you choose to visit.

Very detailed and well maintained abbey. The history behind it is beautiful and it's such a fascinating element in Bram Stoker's story. Can be expensive to get in but it's English Heritage so that's to be expected.

Lovely place to visit. Great shop. The Abbey is spectacular. It must have been a wonderful building in its day. The architecture and detailed carvings are so impressive.

You can reach the Abbey by either walking up 199 steps, as seen on TV, or via the open top tour bus which pulls up outside approx every 20 mins. Very impressive ruins with weathered pillars surrounded by stunning views, however, the atmosphere was ruined for me by a play about Dracular that was on, which had attracted a large crowd. Ticket prices are around PS16.50 for adults and slightly less for children, families and concession or for booking on-line prior. There's a tea shop and museum shop that anyone can visit without paying an entrance fee. There's also a car park a short distance away with its own separate entrance to the Abbey.

Beautiful ruins overlooking Whitby. A great place to visit if you are interested in history or old ruins and historical architecture. The abbey stands proud overlooking the North Sea and the stunning Whitby coastline. There are plenty of opportunities to take good pictures and wander around the ruins. The ruins can be accessed for those with mobility users as they have installed ramps around the ruins to make it easier for pushchairs and wheelchairs etc. There is a shop and museum with a cafe outdoors. And toilets too, although the toilets by the car park costs 50p per visit. The car park cost us just over PS8 for 6 hours but there were other options available. It is run by English heritage and the CSSC card is valid for use at the abbey. Definitely worth a visit.

We have been to the Abbey before, but were lucky enough to visit in the last week of July and see a performance of the Dracula story by a theatre group called Time Will Tell. They are a cast of three, so do have a couple of roles each, but they were well worth seeing. It was very hot the day we saw them and they should have full acknowledgement for the way they dealt with the heat in heavy costumes whilst still racing around performing. As an audience we followed them around the Abbey and it was great seeing children being so engrossed in the story and joining in. They are only performing till near the end of August, but if you plan on visiting the Abbey, do go watch them. As for the Abbey itself, we were staying in town so climbed the steps, it's an amazing view! The Abbey is lovely to walk around and the museum is interesting, with a well stocked shop to visit too.
