This 260-acre country park features woodland, heathland, and grassland habitats, with several walking trails and a 10-mile cycle route. The park is home to a variety of wildlife, including deer, foxes, and birds, and offers scenic views of the surrounding countryside. Visitors can explore the park's many features, including a woodland play area, a trim trail, and a cafe serving refreshments.
If you're in the Maidstone area, this is a good place to take a breath of fresh and and go for a wander. Great panoramic views, the ruined walls of an ancient castle... and two lorry trailers dumped in the forest (for some unknown reason). Some of the more narrow routes have nettles and briars (so avoid "the path less traveled" unless you're wearing long trousers.
Great for a nice walk alone, with friends or with dogs, lovely route with extra diversions if you want, nearby ruins to enjoy and a nice picnic area near the carpark to stop for a break. Parking is charged by the day for just a few pounds and it's usually nice and quiet. Great location to practice recall with your dog or work on outdoor training as there are many places that are fenced in from roads. We love to watch people practice their paragliding here too!
Beautiful place to walk the dog. Lovely trails, gorgeous views. Pick the right weather and you won't be sorry. Parking is good and payable by app. Take a picnic on a nice day!!
Great place to walk the dog on any day of the year, plenty or parking, pay for parking using an app. Mobility scooters would be needed to get around the whole park. Paths are of hard compacted gravel, mostly on the level. Unpowered wheelchairs will need a fit and healthy pusher. Nice large picnic area by the main carpark area, beautiful views of Detling and surrounding countryside as far as Bearsted and Maidstone beyond on a clear day. No toilets or cafe here, dog waste bins at regular intervals only litter bin is at the main carpark, none anywhere else. Vehicle height restriction is 6ft 6 inches. In the summer the carprk closes at 8pm, PS50 fine if you stay later than closing time. To get to the ruined castle, you have to cross a single lane road. Be careful if the dog is of the lead. We'll worth a visit
Great place to walk take the kids and walk the dog. There are woodland walks and open spaces. Ample car parking .. charges Monday to Friday PS1 .. PS1.50 at weekends .. there is also a gateway to the North Downs Way footpath. Beautiful scenery from the top,can see for miles on a clear day.
Just got back. Not the best of country parks in the area. You have to drive past it and turn back another 2 miles if your coming from Medway! No toilets and nowhere for coffee. Unsure if this is due to new year's Day. A good solid trail / path albeit on the short side. The remains of the castle were pretty cool though although the heel to the vantage point must be impossible to climb if wet. A good couple of hours spent here nevertheless.
