This 18th-century mill has been beautifully restored to showcase rural life in the past. The mill's original machinery is still intact, and visitors can explore the miller's house, stables, and outbuildings. Exhibits feature traditional crafts, farming practices, and the social history of the area. The centre also offers a tea room, gift shop, and picnic area, surrounded by picturesque countryside walks.
Superb Museum with lots of interesting exhibits from a bye-gone era. Many interesting agricultural implements and a full Cobber's Workshop as well a Smithy. The Mill itself tells it's own unique storey of flour production through the ages, with original machinery still in place within the building. The Millers Cottage gives an insight into the Family who lived and worked there. Dave our Guide was excellent and took the time to answer any questions we had with his faultless in-depth knowledge. A very pleasant way to spend an hour and the work of the Volunteers is outstanding. Will definitely return.
Fantastic little historic gem that is well worth visiting. There is a lot to see here, from the heritage buildings with rooms just as they would have been long ago to the collections of agricultural tools and machinery. And then, there is the mill itself, the blacksmith's and the workshops. Very friendly, helpful volunteers are the icing on a most excellent cake.
I've given 5 stars because I know that this is a very interesting place to visit, however on Tuesday 9 July we attempted to visit and drove into the entrance to find that there was absolutely nowhere to park, so drove out again. I'm sure this wasn't because it was full of visitors vehicles on a weekday, so must have been volunteer's vehicles taking up all the car park spaces.
I haven't been around the mill for many years, it was always interesting. I went yesterday for the craft fair and had a look around and was amazed at how much it had grown. Well worth a visit and look out for my Lister D and corn mill.
Interesting stories told by great volunteers.
Guided tour by volunteer was fascinating, an excellent endeavour to restore an old mill to working order. This is a great effort and everyone should support it. Also the souvenir mugs are very cheap!
