A picturesque harbour on the Irish Sea coast, surrounded by charming Georgian architecture, quaint streets, and a rich maritime history. The harbour is home to a marina, fishing boats, and a variety of vessels, with the iconic Whitehaven Lighthouse standing sentinel at the entrance. The adjacent Marina Gardens offer a tranquil oasis, while the nearby Beacon Museum showcases the town's fascinating history and nautical heritage.
A Continental Market was open from the Thursday to the Sunday. These are worth keeping an eye out for. Also a small fairground was installed on the Marina carpark. A good range of food was available along with some clothing and other household items.
Whitehaven Harbour is a must-visit destination for anyone exploring the beauty of England's northwest coast.
The locals are so nice, friendy and accommodating. Found Stella the seal by the harbour and she was so cute. The walk around the harbour was good as well, there were 2 paths that you can take towards the light house. Unfortunately the weather during our visit was cloudy and light rain, but we still had fun.
Photos show the discolouration of the water due to that is believed to be caused by an old mine shaft. Other than this there is a distinct lack of vision/commitment to develop more cafes and bars that this area is crying out for.
Stella the Seal is currently claiming the place as her own. She has become a popular attraction since settling here but please keep dogs away from her as well as screaming children. We don't want to scare her. In other news the harbour itself is very nice, a great walk, seagulls are often a pain though, which is nothing new.
Popped here to check out the Coast to Coast stuff, as an avid fan and member of the Wainwright society, this is a fitting thing to see, the scenery around here is amazing, plenty of parking areas to go to, bit blustery here when we turned up but it didnt stop the visit to the area
