This 40-acre park features a large lake, walking trails, and plenty of wildlife, including birds, fish, and insects. Visitors can enjoy picnics, birdwatching, and relaxation in the peaceful surroundings. The park also offers a children's play area, a café, and a visitor center with information about the park's history and wildlife.
Very little signage. Good stout footware required. Very muddy. Can easily stumble across the trails bikes area so be careful. Be careful with dogs. Awesome views from the top
Whitespots or the "Lead Mines" as it's known to locals. Steeped in history , would love to learn more and see photos of it all those years ago. Some information signs are erected around the area but these have been defaced by vandals making it hard to read the information on them. Plenty of good walks, either to the top (With views of Newtownards, Belfast or even the Irish sea on a good day!) or around the old structures. You can even walk to Helen's Tower from here. Good footwear is recommended!
Mostly it's a poorly maintained dog toilet. Popular with dog walkers but they don't bother cleaning up. The path beside the Somme Museum has been blocked by falle trees for some time. The alternate route up to the lead mines, where trial bikes churn up the terrain is marked by orange spillage that stinks strongly of petrochemicals. Been running for months near the carpark and just ignored. Views are average at best. Plenty of better places to take animals or kids.
Amazing to walk the dogs here. You can go up to Helen's Tower from here and let the dogs roam free. Watch out for Trial Bikers. They actually shouldn't be in the part where the walk to Helen's Tower is.
Great for dogs. Keep an eye out for cyclists. Loads of mud though you can rinse your pooch in the quarry.
Some nice easy walks from various entry points. Good for cycling as well if you have a suitable bike.
Hiking
Good for kids
