A picturesque beach with soft golden sand and calm turquoise waters, perfect for swimming, sunbathing, and water sports. The beach is surrounded by a promenade lined with cafes, restaurants, and amusement arcades, offering a lively atmosphere and stunning views of the Bristol Channel.
Went here a month ago and it was lovely. Nice fresh breeze and lovely beach. It does get crowded later in day and there was a fairground near by. Did find there wasn't plenty to do apart from walk. The fish and chips were good although bit pricey and the cod was pretty slim and full of bones which surprised me. That was at the place called chippy on the beach, I think. Some of the people there were not friendly. We were near Finnegan's inn and a group of men swore at us for no reason and clearly were looking for trouble. Turned the day sour.
A good beach, wide open sandy area and really convenient parking (assuming you aren't arriving in the middle of the day during the summer break). We stayed at the nearby premier inn (cardiff airport) and got to the beach at 10am - absolutely perfect with very few people so we were able to make the most of it. Then 5 buses full of what seemed like a social group from London came and started to encroach in our space (literally walking over our blanket and having the gall to not even apologise) playing loud music and all sorts of other unsightly conduct. Beach is great but avoid peak times as you'll run into the dregs of society.
No dogs, no alcohol clean beach.
It's a beautiful beach with lots to do.
I have been visiting Whitmore Bay Barry Island all my life at 73 it still holds a special place to come to. It has a lovely stretch of sand and there are Life guards on duty and the flags show you where you can safely swim. Lots of cafe's and places to eat food. There are plenty of bench seats along the frontage where you can walk you can even sit and enjoy a picnic. Views on a good day are lovely you can see the Somerset coast and you can watch the shipping either going up the Channel to Bristol or making its way out of the Bristol Channel to far flung places. The Funfair is always busy if you like all the fun of the fair.
We went on a Sunday in the summer holidays around 2 pm and it took us more than half an hour to find parking. The beach is really bad as it is muddy and sticks to your body, however if you stay at the start of the beach the sand is soft and clean, also the water is very brown and dirty. Another bad thing is that there is 0 water facilities to clean yourself with, so we couldn't clean ourselves after being in the dirty water and sand, also the male toilets were locked off and were hiding behind a big dirty puddle of mud, sand and water. The toilets were extremely dirty and unhygienic. Is not as show in pictures. This beach isn't kid friendly and I would only recommend this place if you're going sunbathing and nothing else.
Good for kids
