Popped into the museum Saturday with grandchildren, partly to shelter because it was so cold and windy outside. It's been a long time since I last visited. It was fantastic! So child friendly! The volunteer staff were welcoming, well informed and helpful. The four year old and seven year old were completely transfixed. The children loved the 'Can you spot' sheets. The parents were very impressed by the staff. Superb Peter Cushing exhibition. His sketches and paintings a surprise. Definitely won't walk past in the future!
Such a good place to visit. Looks so tiny from the outside but inside it goes on forever with so much useful information and history around Whitstable. Real steam train and trams on view and staff - Peter especially was so informative and interacted with our children so we'll helping them understand the history of items. Definitely would recommend a visit if you are in Whitstable.
Tiny museum packed with items relating to the Whitstable area and includes a Small giftshop. There is a PS3 charge for tourists visiting the museum.
Lovely little museum, and lots to see and gain knowledge from for our little town! The volunteers were amazing with the children too, helping them with the games around the museum. Bonus that it's free for locals too!
The museum should be your first stop if/when you visit Whitstable. You will be able to appreciate everything you'll see in town after seeing all that this place has to show you: the history of the harbour, the shipbuilding, the Invictus, the Oyster, deep-sea diving, regatta, the community and some of its celebrity residents who have passed away. And to top it off, the museum has staff who are happy to provide answers to any questions you might have.
I really enjoyed this little museum. Lots of nuggets of local information which made our stay in whitstable more interesting... Maunsell forts, Invicta and the floods. Learnt about the oyster industry and the town during the war. Even a bit about Peter Cushing. Only open odd times though.
