This museum showcases the island's military history, with exhibits on the island's defenses, the role of the Isle of Wight in both World Wars, and the history of the island's regiments. The museum also explores the island's maritime and aviation heritage, with displays on shipbuilding, sailing, and flying.
This place is a little gem of our island , we took our boys there yesterday aged 6 and 14 . The team are amazing friendly informative ! The volunteers are a wealth of knowledge and some fantastic stories I could've listened to them all day thank you to Graham and Dennis and the guy that drove us around in the tank Dennis thank you so much for the firing range. Thank you for accepting us and two boys and all three dogs everything was superb.the displays are fantastic. The cafe was lovely delicious coffee with beautiful food we had a gorgeous cream tea. This is a must to visit.Theresa & Jonathan Seavers x
This is a very well thought out museum. So much to look at, not just a 'vehicle' museum, there's collectables and artifacts everywhere. The displays, shop windows and room re-creations are brilliant. Staff are very knowledgeable. Tea rooms offer good, homecooked food.
A really good place to visit if your interested in anything to do with world war 1 and world war 2 got speaking a a volunteer and he was very knowledgeable they do have rides but on the day we visited the staff member who does these has just had an operation so they were unavailable .they have a lovely cafe and a shop as well
Absolutely amazing.First time to the Island and to the museum which doesn't look much from the outside but when you get inside the exhibits are vast and fascinating. The staff/volunteers are amazing too, offering a wealth of knowledge. We had the pleasure of meeting Ernie what a fascinating guy. He showed us around troop carriers and we had the pleasure of listening to his gun talk which was hands on as well. Well worth a visit.
Came back after a year to revisit, the cafe is amazing, delicious gluten free items available including bread and cake, they do a lovely breakfast. The military museum is extremely good, well laid out and has some excellent vehicles and educational displays and talks for both adults and children. Air rifle shooting and military vehicle rides also available.
This museum was worth the visit. The vehicles and war memorabilia are great. But for my party the gun demonstration and the ability to handle the exhibits was awesome. I was invited to sit in the drivers seat of a tank as well as hold several guns. The volunteers were great, knowledgeable and very helpful. The warm scone cream tea was a delicious treat at the end of the visit.
