Wildboar Clough is a scenic valley in the Peak District National Park, Derbyshire, England. The valley is surrounded by rolling hills, limestone cliffs, and wooded areas, offering picturesque views and walking trails. The River Dane flows through the valley, providing a tranquil atmosphere. The area is rich in history, with evidence of ancient settlements and industrial activities, such as lead mining and textile production. Today, Wildboar Clough is a popular destination for hikers, nature lovers, and those seeking a peaceful retreat from urban life.
Better doing this hike in good weather as it can get a bit soggy in winter. Fantastic views when you reach to summit of the hill and well worth it. Can be a moderate to hard climb so watch out if you have young children. It will take about an hour to get from Torside Car Park to the top and back if you are fit and will be treated to waterfalls and amazing views. You can carry on across to the Snake Pass if you are a keen hiker.
Wildboar Clough is a tricky Grade 2/3 scramble in the upper falls. A sound knowledge of climbing techniques and proper hiking gear is necessary to be safe. It is a fantastic and enjoyable scramble with some slippery, loose and exposed rock and can be a challenge even in good weather. Please respect this place.
Lovely hike, but it's a grade 1-2 scramble, and the last 3-4 waterfalls are a grade 3 scramble/boulder series. Stunning views from the top. Could definitely be a bit slippery if after a rain, I would absolutely not do it during or after a heavy rain. NOT dog friendly - slippery for them, big jumps & drops, holes, you'd have to lift them up and down frequently. You go out the carpark, down the path (turning left from the carpark) for alittle bit, then up the first turning on the right over a style. You just keep going up, eventually you walk up the river bed, there are several paths on the left & right which can help both up & down. coming down you can go onto the right (facing the car park) and follow a path almost along the fence and you miss most of the rocks. I don't know how you'd find the path going up though.
We visited here during the Summer months (did we have a Summer?) when the Clough was bone dry with zero water flowing. What a difference now, with the torrential and persistent rainfall that has seen the nearby reservoirs of Woodhead and Torside fill up.
Best scrambling route i have done and a difficult one too mostly due to the weather... i was surprised to be the only one on the hike so i guess it is not a well known place. You can follow the route up until bleaklow (around 16 miles). Parking is cash only and you can park off road but only suitable for small wehicles
Really enjoyed this little scramble up the Clough. Quite a few little waterfalls to get up, most with an obvious route up. Only shame is it doesn't go on longer. The route is down climbable if you can't be bothered with a dull walk through tons of heather.
