Wildwood Devon is a fantastic family attraction set in beautiful Devon countryside featuring outdoor adventure play, indoor soft play and a world class maze. It has a fantastic selection of wildlife including wolves, lynx, wild boar, red fox, otters and red squirrels. At weekends and holidays you'll find hands-on activities in the authentic Saxon Village. It also has a great cafe in a Victorian coach house featuring a full range of meals, snack and amazing home made biscuits and cakes. The attraction is run by the Wildwood Trust, a registered charity dedicated to the conservation of British wildlife and wild spaces.
This was a very strange experience, pervaded by a sense of unintentional neglect. I do need to say that the staff and volunteers were very friendly and helpful and would give them 5 stars, before I explain a little more... The first few enclosures, it was very difficult to spot any animals and after some time were left wondering if there were in fact any lizards to see. This was followed by a visit to the otters, who were hiding, so we just ended up staring at an algae ridden concrete pool bubbling up with froth in some places. We did come back later and see the otters were out - they were very sweet and sociable. The walkway to see the bear was nice and we did see a bear! There were a number of enclosures on the way though, where it was hard to tell if they were hiding anything and a water tank we just stared at for ages. The one owl we saw on that stretch did salvage a sense of complete despondence for that particular route. The trip was saved, for me, with a visit to the Saxon Village where you could pay 50p to roast a marshmallow on the fire. There was a really interesting talk on the Saxon way of life and an insight into a few of the crafts. The exhibit included some huts, built the Saxon way, which you could have a look inside. The maze was fun - again though, just tired around the edges and growing unruly. Overall we didn't feel that PS45 for a family of four was very well justified at all.
Nice medium/small zoo. The highlights were seeing the bear, the wolves, the otters and lynx cats. The maze was great. Small but tricky. We spent 4 hours here
Amazing place, all the animals seem well looked after and as comfy as can be in captivity. There's different talks daily and a bear talk everyday. This is the perfect place to stop off at. It's on the smaller side but well worth visiting. I have been 3 times over the last few years, and every year since my 1st, and its amazing to see how all the animals have grown and how the place has something different every time.
I visited here a lot as a child (as did my husband), but haven't been properly for nearly 10 years. We arrived promptly at 10am, and it was nice to see many cars already parked, ready to visit. We had pre-booked tickets online (not essential) so getting in was super speedy. Friendly, helpful staff at the entrance desk. We loved seeing the animals - even my toddler (who, at his age, I'm normally glad there is no charge at animal parks, because he'd rather play with a stick or find wheelbarrows) was entranced by the bears. What a gem that viewing walkway is! The saxon village was a hit - we enjoyed toasting marshmallows and spending time in the houses. The balance of activities, open space, animals and things to do here is really well done. We ended the day with the woodland walk which was peaceful. Definitely value here - we will be returning soon!
Lovely little Wildlife Park, unfortunately we didn't get to see the Wild cat, linx or Wolves as they were hiding somewhere but I could have watched the bears forever, absolutely gorgeous animals. Good food and reasonably priced in the cafe, although the toilets really need updating and regularly checked as they were filthy. Otherwise, I would have given 4 stars.
Absolutely lovely small zoo and gardens. My son's high light was the fantastic maze which due to him deciding it was a playground for hide and seek we spent 45 mins finding our way out My highlight was the saxon huts and seeing the wolves ! Would have loved to see the bears but they were asleep.
