A wonderful local Museum celebrating the rich and varied history of the Cotswold Town of Winchcombe, from it's early beginnings right up to the present day. Items to see include fragments of the Winchcombe Meteorite, our late 15th century civic maces, a harmonium from the Winchcombe workhouse, and examples of Winchcombe Pottery. Come and delve into over 5000 years of Winchcombe History! Entry is free with an option donation. We look forward to welcoming you.
Our first visit despite living in Winchcombe for a good few years! We spent a fascinating hour and a bit looking around the wonderful artefacts, old pictures and reading up on interesting stories about this history rich little town. Hope to revisit with my elderly parents as I know it will be of interest and will be accessible due to the lift installed. We look forward to revisiting again soon! Matt and Amy
Very small but interesting museum containing all sorts, including fragments of the meteorite that struck the town in 2021 and put them back on the map.
The museum really is a lovely place to go. You not only get to see the local history but also get to really imagine what things were like back in the day. They have an actual meteorite on display and some amazing other local exhibits. If you do the chance to go, please do. it won't disappoint. The staff there are just amazing, always happy to chat and show you the exhibits. They also have a nice little gift shop as well. Would highly recommend.
What a nice little museum. Well worth 20 minutes of anyone's time. Very friendly and informative staff. If nothing else you need to see the Winchcombe meteorite. Don't forget to give a donation to keep places like this running it would be sad to lose it.
Super little museum, like a tardis full of fascinating local history, tales of Old, fossils, photographs and many other pieces of interesting local history. Very helpful friendly staff always willing to assist and share more information about this part of the Cotswolds. We found the part about ancient burial mounds including belas knapp very useful, however a spiritual prospective would be even more important as to understand the real meaning of these ancient areas rather than the scientific stance which often completely misses the point.
It hurts me to give this museum only three stars. I'd only give it two, but I add another one for the effort of the staff and curators. There is so much stuff to see there! They have so much on display, but it's all packed together with text printed on plain paper next to it. I retained very little. It's one of the few British museums with town maces still preserved, and they hardly popped out among the rest. Working in a museum myself, it was painful to see the potential not getting the right amount of space. This material requires at least twice the amount of room with ample space and with topics nicely separated.
