This museum showcases the history of Woburn Abbey and its estate, featuring exhibits on the abbey's monastic past, the Russell family who owned the estate, and the development of the modern-day safari park. The museum is housed in a 19th-century stable block and offers a glimpse into the lives of the people who lived and worked on the estate over the centuries.
A lovely local museum filled with plenty of information about Woburn through the ages and accompanied by a great variety of 'relics' from the time. It may be small, but it is certainly densely packed - you'll leave with a much greater appreciation of the area's history, significance and memorable inhabitants. There's also a small shop offering locally-made crafts/gifts and second-hand books/jigsaws alongside the usual tourist-y wares. The site is free to enter and is run wholly by volunteers, meaning they are even more appreciative of any donation you can give them. However, be warned - both the shop (purchases) and museum (donations) are cash only!
Lovely little museum, worth a 15 min drop-in. Staffed entirely by volunteers and free to enter. Cool to learn a little bit of local history.
Great little bit of history. Most interesting thing i learned was that cars should not drive up the grave yard due to age of the coffins are so ancient the ground might collapse from the weight. Shouldnt be driving a car at a grave yard anyway. Everyday's a school day.
Gorgeously interesting place filled with lots of amazing local history. I used to go there when I was a child with family. Lovely friendly staff with amazing recommendations on places to go after. Also great gift shop
I love going here and finding out more about my family history and show my children about it all
