Please Note, The Goblin Hall is closed to the public. It is still possible to visit and view the castle and surrounding area. Yester Castle was originally built by Hugo de Giffard during the late twelfth century. Although much of it is in ruins, the castle is unique, atmospheric and full of surprises. Can you find the hidden Goblin Ha'? Google directions take you via a farm. The owners have requested that rather than crossing the farm, you enter via the road at Danskine or park at the golf course to get to the castle. Beware of steep drops and uneven footing. Ground is muddy in bad weather, come prepared. Please be responsible when approaching the castle, ensure dogs are kept on leads, take rubbish home etc.
Great walk and great history, make sure you take water and snacks we done 7 mile to make the most of it, I parked away from what maps say, instead use lay-by or golf course, watch grimlife collective video on YouTube for tips too
What an amazing ruin. My 8 year old was pooping her pants the whole time we were there. It has an eerie feel to it. Take time to research the history before visiting. It's very interesting. We asked permission to park at the golf course & walk through the grounds.
Nice place but very dangerous an me and my friend fell of the steap hill as it was very slide.
You can park at the local golf course but remember to ask permission from the lovely lady who runs the place. She was nice enough to give directions to the ruins which you will need, as the castle is well hidden in the woods. As you approach it, you can sense a mysterious energy. It feels like almost the wizard is still here.
Difficult to find and not signposted at all, this gem in the woods is accessible through muddy paths and a short hike in peaceful woodlands. The path is muddy regardless of the time of year so wellies or decent waterproof footwear is advised. DO NOT ACCESS THROUGH THE FARM as google maps suggests. Park at Danskine loch and head through the woods to the castle. There is no wheelchair access or amenities and some parts of the path are muddy and slippy so it's not for everyone. When you find the castle, you can see the Goblin Ha through rusted bars, but if you go through the castle doorway and round the side you will find a small entrance and tunnel into the Goblin Ha. There's also a set of steps leading down into a dead end where you really notice a drop in temperature , although there's been a lot of masonry discarded in there and it's slippy and tricky to navigate so take care. Care is also advised around the castle as its built on steep cliffs with no handrails or walls etc and is definitely not for young children unsupervised.
It's a great place to go exploring. The first thing you'll need to do is find suitable Parking. There is no specific parking for the castle ruins so you'll need to use your common sense eon finding a place to park. Getting there was through a really nice wooded walk though very muddy, I suggest wellies or boots. Take a torch to explore the Goblin Ha', amazing atmosphere and cool aorta to explore.
