Michell's Engine House is a historic industrial building in Cornwall, England, that now serves as a museum showcasing the region's industrial heritage. The building dates back to the 19th century and features a stunning example of a Cornish engine house, which was used to pump water out of local mines. The engine house is a testament to the region's rich mining history and is one of the best-preserved examples of its kind. Visitors can explore the building and learn about the history of mining in Cornwall, as well as see the impressive beam engine that once powered the mine's operations.
Now reopened but engine not running. There are still plans to run with electricity once sufficient funds raised. Check out the majestic operation of this engine in operation on You Tube. Oddly the name of the engine and shaft differs Michell or Mitchell. So Google both to find materials to read. The bob clearly shows the spelling. It's worth a visit after you have had the guided tour of East Pool Mine. It's a short walk across Morrisons carpark. https://youtu.be/diRw5o1UKkw?si=MvKqOQdLYXMgTYVY
The plans were to renovate the engine and allow it to work off the electric motor again but the national trust don't seem to be interested they remove the signs and until recently they didn't even cut the grass
Lots of history with this very well renovated Engine House. National Trust owned and manned by volunteers, which might explain why it is not open as much as others. The wheel outside spins by electric motor when it is open.
