Exmoor National Park is a vast and scenic region in southwest England, characterized by rugged moorland, wooded valleys, and a dramatic coastline. The park's diverse landscape is home to a wide range of wildlife, including red deer, Exmoor ponies, and peregrine falcons. Visitors can explore the park's many trails, including the South West Coast Path, and enjoy activities such as hiking, horse riding, and fishing. The park's picturesque villages, such as Lynton and Lynmouth, offer a glimpse into traditional rural life, with their thatched cottages, tea rooms, and local pubs serving up delicious food and drink.
My boyfriend and I recently had the pleasure of doing a private stargazing experience in Exmoor National Park, organized by Wild About Exmoor. From the moment we arrived, it was evident that Jennie and Malcolm are passionate about what they do. They greeted us with warm smiles and such enthusiasm for Exmoor's natural beauty and all it has to offer. As we set ourselves up atop Dunkery Beacon, Jennie surprised us with her homemade cheese straws, which were absolutely delicious, and later followed these up with homemade flapjacks. Delightful treats that added a personal touch to the evening. Throughout the evening, Jennie and Malcolm shared their wealth of knowledge about the night sky. They pointed out constellations and planets, offering fascinating insights and answering our questions with patience and clarity. To make the evening even more enjoyable, Jennie and Malcolm provided a selection of beverages. We were spoiled for choice with options like wine, whisky, and hot chocolate. It was a thoughtful gesture that kept us warm and refreshed as we marveled at the wonders above. The location in Exmoor National Park was simply breathtaking, with panoramic views of the surrounding countryside, and the best possible view of the night sky. If you have the opportunity to join one of their stargazing events, I highly recommend it. Prepare to be mesmerized by the beauty of the night sky and the expertise of your guides.
We did the Barbecue and Stargazing evening the other night and we had a fantastic time. The evening started with a delicious Barbecue at the Exford Bridge Tearooms followed by an extremely interesting talk about the night sky by the very knowledgeable Jennie. We were then invited outside to view the moon through their telescope before walking up onto the Moors to watch the stars coming out. Would thoroughly recommend the evening to anyone, my husband and I found it fascinating and so did our three girls.
When we planned our summer trip to Cornwall and Devon the last thing we thought we would be doing is star gazing on Exmoor and yet it turned out to be "unanimously" the best thing on our entire trip. Jennie and Malcolm provided a beautiful night - laying on our backs, amongst the heather, watching the international space station going by followed by drinks and nibbles while watching Jupiter and Saturn through the telescope. Magical!
Jennie is a wonderful guide, very knowledgeable and kind. Even it was cloudy, we experienced the moor and had a wonderful introduction into the several apps on stargazing. Culmulating into an amazing, homemade dinner made from local produce and conversation. Would definitely go again!
Fabulous evening despite the absence of the stars (cloudy night). Jennie and Malcolm friendly, extremely knowledgeable about the heavens, and very good cooks. Highly recommended for those who enjoy being at one with nature and good food!
My teenage son and I had a wonderful evening star gazing with Jennie and Malcolm, food was great, really great, hosts are super friendly, helpful and accommodating and we were walked to a really fabulous spot to see an amazing night sky, and then to a telescope for a better look. A really great night!
